Meet Student Designer: Nico Schmalz

Nico Schmalz is a 19-year-old interdisciplinary Artist From Boston, Massachusetts. Focusing on creating an ever-changing style inspired by experimentation through medium, theme, and form.

Some common themes his works draw from are self-reflection, addiction, mental health, and seeing the unseen. Nico is currently in his first year at The Art Institute of Chicago studying to receive his BFA in fashion design. Beginning his Art career in 2022, Nico has since held his first solo show at Carleton-Willard Village Retirement Community in Bedford, MA along with being recognized for works in exhibitions at the Lowell City Hall and Innovation Academy Charter School. He is a recipient of the IACS Art Department award.
