Natural Scarf Dyeing Workshop

A part of Sustainable Fashion Week Chicago’s April 2026 official program!
In this 3 hour workshop led by natural dyer Liz Mortensen of Laila Textiles, attendees will learn the basics of natural dye and how to bundle dye with plants.
About the Workshop:
- Basics of natural dyeing including fabric prep, mordants, and modifiers
- Overview of natural dye plants and how to extract plant dye
- How to naturally bundle dye fabric with dried plants
- Each student will create and leave with a one-of-a kind bundle dyed 100% silk scarf as well as a PDF with information covered at workshop

Location: Laila Textiles Studio at N Kedzie Ave & W Carroll Ave in East Garfield Park (exact address & access information will be emailed to attendees after ticket purchase).

Accessibility Information: the studio is located on the second floor and is only accessible through a flight of stairs.
Class Fees cover all supplies and materials. No prior experience needed, all are welcome! Please wear clothes you do not mind getting a bit messy.
