The Power Of Repair

Did you know that extending the life of a garment reduces its environmental impact by 20-30%?

2 Tips To Extend The Life Of A Garment:

Fashion waste is littering our shared land, impacting the soil, air, and water that we depend on. Use these two tips to extend the life of a garment.

1. Take Care Of The Items

This is incredibly important when examining how we care for our clothes. Following the proper washing and drying instructions, learning what items we can—or cannot hang, and and how to store them is a great first step in prolonging the life of clothing.

2. Repair What’s Needed

Sometimes life happens to our garments. Over time clothes can develop rips, stains, moth holes, and even loose or missing buttons. But, that doesn’t mean it’s the end for the garment. Instead of throwing the item away, repair it.

It’s not uncommon for garments in less-than-perfect condition to be thrown away. Many garments are sent to landfills and incinerators— even deserts, waterways, and the open sea.

Today, society regularly wears less than 30% of the clothing in wardrobes. A fraction of those unworn garments are unworn due to needing a little mending. Repair is a powerful form of resistance in a world of ultra-fast fashion. If we repair a garment, it is likely to be kept in use for another 1.3 years.
