Meet Student Designer: Presley Baldwin

My name is Presley Baldwin, I am a 3rd year undergraduate student studying
Fashion Design at SAIC. My work delves into the concept of transformation,
where garments evolve in form and function. By reimagining and reworking
existing materials, I create pieces that embody sustainability and dynamic
change, pushing the boundaries of fashion as a medium of both aesthetic and
conceptual transformation.

My garments in this show are all crafted using second-hand materials with a
zero-waste approach. They are both made entirely from repurposed shoe
materials, second-hand bags, and denim jeans. Every element of these
materials: zippers, straps, buttons, and linings, was utilized to ensure a no-waste project.

This collection is deeply rooted in sustainability, specifically addressing the
issue of water waste in the leather industry. Each leather product requires
17,100 liters of water for a single leather tote and 12,300 liters for a pair of
boots. By repurposing leather, I aim to bring attention to this environmental
impact while demonstrating the potential for sustainable alternatives in
fashion.
